EB01 Purple/Black (Zephyr) Deck Profile

I actually wanted to write about Z deck profile during OP06 set but seeing how I needed Bon Clay from EB01, I've waited until then to write a deck list about this Leader. Now at first when I saw this Purple/Black Leader, I went straight to hand destruction seeing how both Purple and Black card pool have hand destruction cards. Unfortunately, I couldn't really get hand destruction to work seeing that I need a bit of ramp in this build in order to make this work.

Ramp

Ramp will play an important role to this deck as the more we ramp, the faster we could play our high drop Characters on the field. Plus we can also use Z's effect to start KOing your opponent's Characters. EB01 Bon Clay comes with 2 effect, the first effect works on play, add 1 DON as active. The second effect is what I think that made this card a secret rare. The second effect works when attacking, select 1 of your opponent's Characters. This Character base power becomes the same as the selected Character's power this turn. So the more power your opponent got, the better Bon Clay will become at becoming a beat stick.

OP05 Zala and ST04 Jack has similar effects, both requires you to trash a card in order to ramp, but Zala add a DON as rest whilst Jack can add a DON as active. Having DONs as active is always better than rest so we could potentially play more cards or use that extra DON to power up our cards. The only difference between these two cards is that Zala also have a Trigger effect which is by returning 1 DON, play this card. I don't think it is worth using this effect considering we need as much DONs as possible unless you really need Characters on the field.

Cost Reducers

I'm actually not running a lot of cost reducers in this build because if you can get 10 drop Kuzan or OP03 Issho in play, you are pretty much set in KOing a lot of Characters your opponent plays. OP02 Tsuru have a simple effect which works on play, reduce 1 of your opponent's Characters cost by 2 this turn. This is just an early cost reducer if you want to remove your opponent's Characters early from the field instead of getting Issho or Kuzan to reduce the Character's cost.

10 drop Kuzan have 2 effects. The first effect works on your turn, reduce all of your opponent's Characters cost by 5. If you can get 10 drop Kuzan, you are pretty much set in KOing any Characters your opponents will be playing, which is why he is one of the key cards in this build. The second effect works on play, KO 1 of your opponent's 0 cost Characters. We will be able to KO 5 cost Characters thanks to the first effect. If you want to KO any Characters with the on play effect, you will need to play a second Kuzan to reduce your opponent's Characters cost by 10.

OP03 Issho is a cheaper version of Kuzan, and he also have 2 effects. For the first effect, you need to give him a DON in order to trigger the effect. The effect works on your turn, reduce all of your opponent's Characters cost by 3. 3 is not a huge number like Kuzan 5, but it is still good enough. The second effect works on play, if your opponent has 6 or more cards in their hand, trash 2 cards from their hand. This is better than ST10 Law's effect as 6 won't be much of a problem when it comes to making your opponents discard cards.

Removals

Here we've only got 3 removals as we also have Z's effect to remove your opponent's Characters. Personally I think this is enough because one of these removals is not an on play effect, so we can use his effect more constantly. EB01 T-Bone works on play, KO 1 of your opponent's 2 cost or less Characters. This shouldn't be too difficult to do when we get Kuzan or Issho on the field. Plus he is also a 2k counter card, so even if you don't use his effect, you can always keep him in your hand.

OP02 Akainu (Sakazuki) is a card where we don't need cost reducers on the field in order to KO Characters. But if you want to KO high cost Characters, then you will need cost reducers for Akainu to KO with. The effect works on play, KO 1 of your opponent's 5 cost or less Characters. This is actually not bad for a 6 drop as we will also have a 7k beat stick. But let say if you want to KO 8 cost or more Characters, then you need to have Issho or Kuzan on the field to KO those Characters.

OP06 Kamazo (aka Killer) is a Character that works on your turn. The effect is when a DON is returned to your DON deck, KO up to 1 of your opponent's 2 cost or less Characters. Now to return DONs to deck, we will have to rely on Z's effect. But we do run Queen and Law in the build who also return DONs back to deck. However, Kamazo most effective is when you can get 10 drop Kuzan on the field as he will be able to KO most of your opponent's Characters once you return DONs. If you also use Z's effect when Kuzan is on the field, you could KO 2 Characters in one go which is very nice to have.

Blockers

As this build mainly focus on high cost Characters to work especially 10 drop Kuzan or Issho, we need Blockers to stall for time and this is why I am running plenty of Blockers in the build to stop our opponent's attacks. Sometimes, ramp will not be fast enough if we don't draw the ramp cards. OP02 Kizaru (Borsalino) also have an effect that works on your opponent's turn. This Character gains 1k power and cannot be KO'd by effects. There are still ways to get around this effect but definitely annoying for your opponents if they can't KO Kizaru.

Fukuro also have an effect which is similar to Kizaru but instead of only works on your opponent's turn, the effect works as long as he is on the field. This Character cannot be KO'd by effects. So if you have both Kizaru and Fukuro during your opponent's turn, they will have limited options in which cards to KO with effects. Plus with Fukuro we will not need to worry about Trigger effects KOing this card unlike Kizaru.

ST04 Queen helps you increase the hand size. I am not running Reiju for extra draw power as we don't constantly return DONs back to deck, because we want to get 10 drop Kuzan as soon as possible on the field. The effect works on play, by returning 1 DON, draw 2 cards and trash 1 card from your hand. This is not bad as the effect will let you plus 1 in your hand.

ST10 Law is mainly in the build for the hand destruction as we also got Issho who can also trash your opponent's hand. The effect works on play, by returning 1 DON, if your opponent has 7 or more cards in hand, trash 2 cards from your opponent's hand. 7 is definitely bit difficult to get unless your opponents have searchers and draw power to increase their hand size, compare to Issho's 6 cards in hand which is a lot easier. But either way, both still works and prevents your opponents from getting massive hand size.

Rest of Supports

The two cards that are mainly a support for the deck and unfortunately Brannew will not work with 10 Kuzan as Kuzan is a Former Navy card, so you can only search for Issho if you want to reduce your opponent's Characters cost. The effect works on play, look at the top 3 cards of your deck, reveal 1 Navy card other than Brannew and add it to your hand. Then, trash the rest of the cards. We do have a few Navy cards in this build, so hopefully we can search them out, otherwise Brannew can easily be replaced with some other cards that could work for this build.

OP06 Moria works on play choose one 4 cost or less Character and one 2 cost or less Character from your trash. Play one as active and the other as rest. I'm mostly using this for the 4 cost or less as we have plenty of Characters we can choose, but unfortunately for 2 cost or less, we've only got Brannew and Tsuru in the build.

Deck List

EB01 Z

Explanation

This is just a full Character deck where we ramp until we can get 10 drop Kuzan or OP03 Issho on the field. Getting either of those on the field will really help to trigger the rest of the deck and then, we could start returning DONs using Z's effect to KO Characters reducing your opponent's field. I am not running any Event Counters, so we will need to rely on Blockers to stall until you can get one of the Characters on the field, preferably, 10 drop Kuzan because of reducing all of your opponent's Characters by 5, which means we will be able to remove most of your opponent's Characters that they will be playing.
