Budget Deck Profile - Red/Purple (Uta) Post OP06

Out of all the new decks from OP06 set, I think Uta is the cheapest to build, as the others need their main SR card and that is very pricey, not suitable for a budget build. For this budget build, I will post 2 deck profiles, one without the FILM starter deck and the other with the FILM starter deck. I will not add any other starter deck with the build like ST04 because who knows, people might not be able to get their hand on them. For the deck with FILM starter deck cards, you will need to keep in mind that I will be posting this like people brought one since it is a budget deck.

Ramp

There's actually not much ramp cards because of Uta Leader being able to ramp DONs with ease even if we don't draw these cards. All Sunday works on play, add 1 DON as rest. Then, if you have 6 or more DONs, draw a card. Personally I don't think this effect is bad for a SR, and it is also cheap to get, wouldn't break your wallet unless you are aiming for much cheaper build. For the Trigger effect, by returning 2 DONs, play this card. Now this is up to you if you want to trigger this or not, as returning 2 DONs can be a lot, and you may not be able to draw a card using her on play effect.

OP05 Zala works on play, you may trash 1 card from your hand to add 1 DON as rest. So if you use Zala's effect along with Uta Leader, you will be losing 2 cards, but gain 2 ramp cards. It really depends on your hand size to use these two effects together. The Trigger effect is by returning 1 DON, play this card. You won't gain or lose anything, but I guess you will have a beat stick on the field during your turn. But more important, she has a 2k counter we can use during the counter step.

Ain is simple, on play, add 1 DON as rest. This comes in the FILM starter deck and I think, you only get 2 copies. It would be better if you got 2 FILM starter decks, making Ain a 4 copy as she is a FILM Character, meaning, it will be very easy to search for her using the search effects we got in this build. But ramping shouldn't be too much of a problem as we got Uta who can do the job.

Resting

Only one of these builds will utilise 2 of these cards as they are from the FILM starter deck. ST05 Uta is a Blocker with an on block effect. By returning 1 DON, rest 1 of your opponent's 5 cost or less Characters. Not only you will be stopping an attack with the block ability, but you will also be resting another Character, meaning you will be able to stop 2 attacks in one go.

ST05 Bullet is actually not too bad for a starter deck card and especially for budget players as the new Uta Leader works perfectly with Bullet. The effect is activate main, by returning 4 DONs, rest up to 2 of your opponent's 6 cost or less Characters. Then, this Character gains Double Attack. Double Attack means we can deal 2 damage with one attack, plus Bullet is a 10k beat stick, so even if you don't use any DONs, your opponents will need a few counters to stop the attack. Plus we already know, we can rest their Blockers with this effect, unless your opponent has more than 2 Blockers in play.

Power Reduction

We do have Uta Leader who can reduce your opponent's power, but personally, I do not think this is enough as we have removals in both builds we we target specific power to remove them. Max is an activate main effect. You may place this Character to the bottom of the owner's deck to reduce 1 of your opponent's Characters power by 3k this turn. This effect is exactly the same as promo Gordon, but luckily for budget players, this is a cheaper version of that card.

OP05 Fire Fist works amazing in these kind of builds where we can focus on reducing your opponent's power. The effect is reduce 1 of your opponent's Characters power by 4k this turn. Then, if you have 2 or less Life, KO 1 of your opponent's 0 power or less Characters. 0 power shouldn't be too difficult to reach as we have Max and Uta who could reduce 5k power in total, plus Fire Fist will be 9k power altogether. To remove 10k power, we need another power reducer like another copy of Max to work.

Removals

Thanks to the power reductions, using these removal cards will be even better for the deck. Z (Navy) works on play, by returning 1 DON, negate the effect of 1 of your opponent's face up Characters this turn. Then, if that Character is 5k power or less, KO that Character. Reaching 5k power or less should not be difficult for this build at all as we do have plenty of power reducers to do so, so none of your opponent's Characters will be safe.

Blue Dragon is a cheaper version of Jet Pistol, well Jet Pistol comes in with ST01 starter deck whilst Blue Dragon comes in with the booster set. Ideally I want to run both as we are using power reducers so both cards will be ideal to wipe out your opponent's Characters. The main effect is KO 1 of your opponent's 5k power or less Characters. Again, just like Z(Navy), this shouldn't be too difficult to do. The Trigger effect is KO 1 of your opponent's 4k power or less. The Trigger effect might be a bit difficult to do as we won't be able to reduce your opponent's power on their turn.

OP06 Shanks is actually very cheap for a SR, so I doubt this will hurt budget players wallet. I say 2-3 in the deck will be enough, but if you really want more beat stick, then go for getting 4, as we have the ramp to play Shanks from hand, plus even if we got too many copies, we could use Uta Leader to discard Shanks from hand for ramp, either way it won't be much of a dead draw if we run too much copies. Anyway, the on play effect is KO 1 of your opponent's 10k power or less Characters. If we mix this with the power reducers, we can KO any Characters we want, and for a budget deck, this is extremely nice to have on top of being a 12k beat stick.

Searchers

We've got 2 different ways of searching FILM cards. 2 of them search your deck, whilst 1 of them search the trash. OP06 Luffy works on play, look at top 3 cards of your deck, reveal 1 FILM card and add it to your hand. Then, place the rest at the bottom of your deck in any order. The best thing about this ability is that we can search for Luffy himself as there is no restrictions in who you search for the deck unlike other searchers. The Trigger effect is activate this card's on play effect. Personally I think this is a shame as we don't get to play Luffy.

OP06 Tesoro works on play, by returning 1 DON, if your Leader is FILM type, add up to two 4 cost or less FILM Characters from your trash to your hand. This effect will be very handy as we will be doing plenty of trashing using Uta Leader's effect, so having something that can recycle will be a great help. Not only that, but you also get to recycle Blockers as the Blockers are all 4 drop and below.

Festa is another search like OP06 Luffy, but he's the main standard searcher for FILM deck. On play, look at the top 5 cards of your deck, reveal 1 FILM card other than Festa and add it to your hand. Then, place the rest at the bottom of your deck in any order. This is your best choice if you only got 1 DON available to use whilst Luffy cost you 2 DONs to play that card for search effect.

Draw

We do have some form of draw power in the build, well only one of these cards actually provides you the draw power, whilst the other is more of a hand filter. OP06 Shiki is a Blocker with an on play effect. If you have 8 or more DONs on your field, draw 1 card and trash 1 card from your hand. The only problem is that you do need 8 DONs, but that shouldn't be too difficult to do.

ST05 Tesoro is a card that let us increase the hand size as we will be doing some discarding using Uta Leader's effect, so we need to recover the hand size and also draw the right cards. The effect works when attacking, by returning 2 DONs, draw 2 cards. I don't think losing 2 DONs will affect the deck dramatically as we could always ramp back with ease.

FILM Supports

Now for the rest of the FILM supports, they are simple addition to the deck. OP02 Shiki only has a Trigger effect, by returning 1 DON, play this card. Now you have some power reducers so Shiki being a vanilla 3k power Character will be very handy to have to wipe some Characters from the field. But he is also a 2k counter which is what I am mainly aiming for with OP02 Shiki in the deck as 2k Counters are always handy to have especially when you are trashing cards in your hand.

Saga is another 2k Counter Character with a when attacking effect. However, you will need to give him a DON to work. This Character gains 1k power until the start of your turn. Then, trash 1 FILM Character at the end of this turn. Saga can become a 7k beat stick if we include the DONs power, but also a 6k base power during your opponent's turn, meaning less counters needed to defend for Saga. Trashing FILM Characters should not matter too much as we do have plenty of low power FILM Characters we could target.

Another SR card, Shuraiya, although Shuraiya is used in quite a few decks outside FILM builds, so this one might be more expensive depending on the location you are living at. For me, Shuraiya is around the price for budget players, so it is affordable. He is a Blocker with a when attacking/on block effect. This Character becomes the same power as your opponent's Leader until the start of your turn. So the more DONs your opponents put into their Leader, the more power we can give to Shuraiya as a Blocker. For beat stick wise, he will most likely be a 5k beat stick as during our turn, the power bonus will disappear, unless your opponents could power their Leader during your turn.

Explanation

It is definitely easier to build Uta with the FILM starter deck, and all you need is one copy of the starter deck to make the build work, as most of the key cards we need are from the booster sets. Whereas if you build the deck without the starter deck, you will be missing some of the key cards like Festa who is a 1 drop searcher. Of course, Festa isn't really expensive if you buy him as singles, but that is only if you can find those cards.

Both builds will have relative similar style as I've kept the build pretty similar from one another, but Uta without ST will have more removal and a strong beat stick thanks to Shanks in the build, whilst Uta with ST will have Bullet who focus on taking out your opponent's Life with one swoop whilst resting their Blocker. Plus also running ST04 Uta will allow us to stop 2 attacks in one turn and use OP06 Tesoro to recycle Uta from the trash. So 1 copy of the ST will be enough, but 2 will definitely makes the build better.
